Jack’s Severed Finger Halloween Invites
Oh Martha Stewart, bless her heart. For as wholesome and cookie cutter cutesy as she appears (aside from that whole stock trading scandal and the subsequent prison sentence) every year she always rolls out a ton of killer Halloween decorations, tips and tricks. One of her more popular and creepy Halloween ideas was her Severed Finger invitations. While a great idea and very sophisticated, the plain white fingers and simple black ribbon left me wanting more.
First off I decided to make the fingers look as realistic as possible. To accomplish that I made a mold of my own right pinkie finger and then cast the invites in a sickly dead green color, finished with a dirty black wash.
Next, I wanted to make the fingers look like they were actually severed. I did this by sculpting some flesh tears on the end of each finger and adding a splash of red paint to simulate blood.

The 8-Bit Jason Project
In honor of the Friday the 13th at the end of this week and inspired by the abysmal yet still endearing 1987 Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) game as well as THIS killer shirt at Mini Cassette Tees we here at Jack’s Attic decided to commemorate the occasion by putting together an art piece we’ve been calling “The 8-Bit Jason Project”.
We always thought it was odd and a bit irritating that in the game Jason was running around in a purple jumpsuit and a blue hockey mask. But what would have happened if the game designers had created 8-bit character sprites for Jason as he appeared in Fridays 3-8? Well, we think it might have looked a little something like this:

Radiation Poisoning is an updated variant of our original Chernobyl design. Complete with blood red Swarovski crystal eyes this latest addition to our macabre collection is limited to five (5) pieces and is available exclusively in our ArtFire Studio for $12.

Our New Logo
Here is our new logo. We wanted to add just the tiniest hint of color with the bright outline, but still keep the predominant supernatural green color scheme.
Throughout the upcoming weekend we’ll be working on making the transition from the previous “Crypt” style logo to this new one.
Oh and if you recognize the font used in “Handmade Darkness” you should, it’s the Evil Dead font.

Jack’s Attic Presents: Orlok – Our Latest Handmade, Dark Art Pendant
“One can see a low-wheeled cart with the two fantastic horses harnessed to it. And now: is it a shadow? A ghost? Nosferatu. He is moving to and fro, to and fro. From the cart to the castle. A Closer Look: Doug – Limited Edition Wooden Poppet
When designing this limited edition, primitive, wooden poppet, we here at Jack’s Attic wanted to create a piece that culled together several areas of varied inspiration.
Firstly, we wanted to fashion a collectible artwork that had the look and feel of an antiquated, olde world style, wooden peg figure. Simple wooden figures such as this had been carved for children prior to the industrial age of machined plastic and commercially available toys.
A second and more contemporary influence was the classic Fisher-Price Little People toys a lot of us grew up playing with as children. The Little People figures encapsulated a simple timelessness with bright colors and a certain wholesome sweetness. With Jack’s poppets we wanted to emulate this simplicity and maybe even a twinge of the sweetness but also counter balance the figure with that same dark thread that unites all of our work.
The final inspiration for our figures was the urban vinyl toy trend initially started by underground graffiti and graphic artists which has since entered into the collective mainstream. These toys were miniature canvases on which the artists showcased a “do it yourself” style of art and promotion that was only available in small numbers and in certain regions.
Doug measures approximately two (2) and 5/16 inches tall and is limited to a series of only ten (10) pieces. Each poppet is hand painted and distressed to create a worn and antiquated affect wholly unique to each figure. Packaged with a hand numbered and signed custom header card each piece also bears corresponding hand numbering as well.

Jack’s Attic has returned from a brief summer sabbatical spent in the workshop refining our craft, conceiving new designs and instituting a new macabre curiosity we are sure will please. To usher in this new chapter in our development we’re introducing price cuts on all of our handmade creations. All pendants previously priced at $20 are now $15 and all $12 pendants are now $10.
In addition to these price cuts we’re also proud to announce the latest additions to our dark art collection: Adam’s Revenge and Doug.
