Horror in HD
We here at Jack’s Attic live for horror movies. Now that the format war is over and Blu-ray has been adopted as the dominant cinematic medium its time to start updating your collection with Blu-ray new and re-releases. To help in that effort we have compiled a comprehensive list of high definition horror releases through the end of the year. This list will be updated as new releases are announced, pushed back or canceled.

eBay Shoppe Announcement and Great Expectations

This Saturday, October 4, 2008, Jack’s Attic will be officially opening our eBay Shoppe located HERE. Bidding on all of our handmade, dark art pendants will begin at just $1. So, bid early and bid often in order to make that desired piece a part of your collection. Can’t wait until Saturday? Then visit our Etsy Shoppe today.
In addition to updates on our Etsy and eBay Shoppes, you can expect us here at Jack’s Attic to comment regularly on other topics which pique our interests.
We are connoisseurs and aficionados of the darker aspects of this world. We live for Halloween, never pass up a chance to watch a horror movie, love gathering around the campfire for a ghost story or two, we stay up late playing scary video games and of course we take pride in designing and creating jewelry inspired by these darker avenues. And we love sharing these things with those of like mind. If you’ve found Jack’s Attic chances are you walk the same shadowed paths that we do. Here you’ll find us discussing books, movies, video games, art, music and current events that all pertain to or are connected by an underlying dark thread.
So come back often, huddle close to the fire, the cold is pressing in and I thought I spied movement in the fog.
After all it’s your turn to tell the next ghost story.
Jack’s Attic Shoppe Officially Opening Tonight

The Tree of Death
The old timers that gathered at Pete Merill’s corner store every Saturday morning would talk about the tree. The conversations would never start with the tree but they would always end there. The men would start by talking about the highway expansion over in Bishop and how it would hopefully bring new business into town. They’d talk about how Frank Wilmuth’s farm went under in ’82 and how it started a crippling domino effect that the town had yet to recover from. And with each exceedingly darker chapter of the town’s history that was discussed, talk of the tree drew closer and closer to the tips of their tongues. Today, it was Teddy who brought it up. “Yup, it was under that tree that old Wilmuth shot himself.”
What Goes into a Jack’s Attic Dark Art Pendant?
Each handcrafted pendant originates from a re-purposed two (2) inch by one (1) inch standard domino.
The domino is hand shaped and stained to give it a worn, weathered appearance and the impression of carved stone. The pendant is hand printed and the image is then distressed to further add to the pieces overall sense of antiquity.
A hole is then drilled into the domino and an antiqued split ring is attached. We do not glue findings or bails to our pieces because over time glue can weaken and break. We use split rings aside from standard jump rings to not only add aesthetic appeal to the piece but also because they are much more durable and assure a solid connection.
Finally, each piece is finished with an adjustable, natural dyed, antiqued brown, genuine leather cord. The leather cord accommodates lengths ranging from 14 inches to 28 inches, allowing the piece to be worn as a choker or as more traditional necklace.
With each piece we strive to craft a collectible, wearable artwork that not only appears to be timeless but will undoubtedly last you many, many years to come.
Death Reach
I was almost paralyzed, but not too much so to make a feeble effort towards flight; a backward stumble which failed to break the spell in which the nameless, voiceless monster held me. My eyes bewitched by the glassy orbs which stared loathsomely into them, refused to close; though they were mercifully blurred, and showed the terrible object but indistinctly after the first shock. I tried to raise my hand to shut out the sight, yet so stunned were my nerves that my arm could not fully obey my will. The attempt, however, was enough to disturb my balance; so that I had to stagger forward several steps to avoid falling. As I did so I became suddenly and agonizingly aware of the nearness of the carrion thing, whose hideous hollow breathing I half fancied I could hear. Nearly mad, I found myself yet able to throw out a hand to ward off the fetid apparition which pressed so close; when in one cataclysmic second of cosmic nightmarishness and hellish accident my fingers touched the rotting outstretched paw of the monster beneath the golden arch.
The Killing Moon
The full moon nearest the autumnal equinox. Generally believed as a time when the boundary between the spirit world and the earthly realm is at its thinnest and when spirits are most likely to be seen on earth. A prosperous time for holding séances and channeling the dead. Also a bountiful time for divination and fortune telling.
Jack’s Attic – Our Mission Statement
It is our hope that each customer that favors us with their patronage garners as much satisfaction wearing and displaying our pieces as we did in crafting them. In undertaking this endeavor we wanted to create a collectible, wearable artwork that drew inspiration from darker avenues. Antiques, Halloween, flickering jack o’ lanterns, black cats, ghost stories, autumn leaves, graveyards at night, campfires and channeling boards. These are the things that inspire us and we feel passionate about. Our inability to find pieces which embraced this darker art compelled us to design and craft our own collection: Jack’s Attic. Pioneers of collectible, antiquated, old world style, dark art jewelry.
The Bones of Mother Shipton
Today’s showcase details the next pendant design to be offered through Jack’s Attic: The Bones of Mother Shipton.
Ursula Southeil (1488 – 1561), better known as Mother Shipton, was an English soothsayer and prophetess who is said to have made dozens of unusually accurate predictions, including the Great Plague of London, the Spanish Armada, and the Great Fire of London.
The most famous example of Mother Shipton’s prophecies foretells many aspects common to modern civilization and predicted the end of the world in 1881.
Carriages without horses shall go,
And accidents fill the world with woe.
Around the world thoughts shall fly
Quick in the twinkling of an eye.
The world upside down shall be
And gold be found at the root of a tree.
Through hills man shall ride,
And no horse be at his side.
Under water men shall walk,
Shall ride, shall sleep, shall even talk.
In the air men shall be seen,
In white, in black, and even green;
Iron in the water shall float,
As easily as a wooden boat.
Gold shall be found and shown
In a land that’s not yet known.
Fire and water shall wonders do,
England shall at last admit a foe.
The world to an end shall come,
In eighteen hundred and eighty one.
The Doppelgänger
Today’s showcase details our next pendant design: The Doppelgänger.
The ghostly double of a living person, a doppelgänger is generally regarded as a harbinger of bad luck. The appearance of a doppelgänger as seen by a person’s friends or relatives portends illness or danger, while seeing one’s own doppelgänger is an omen of death.
Shoppe Announcement and The Coffin of Giles Corey
Jack’s Attic Shoppe located HERE will officially be opening for your patronage on September 22, 2008, the day of the autumnal equinox. We will be offering a selection of our first six dark art pendant designs. In the coming days prior to the opening of the Shoppe we will be showcasing individual designs here at Jacks-Attic.com. It will afford you, the patron, an opportunity to peruse our selection prior to the Shoppe opening. If you have any questions whatsoever regarding our catalogue of items please either direct them towards: Jacks-Attic@live.com or respond accordingly with a comment in the appropriate blog update.
Our first dark art pendant design that will be showcased is The Coffin of Giles Corey.
“About noon at Salem, Giles Cory was pressed to death for standing mute; much pains was used with him two days, one after another, by the court and Captain Gardner of Nantucket who had been of his acquaintance, but all in vain..”
A farmer in early colonial America, Giles Corey, died under judicial torture during the Salem witch trials. He had been accused of witchcraft by Ann Putnam, Jr., Mercy Lewis, and Abigail Williams. He refused to enter a plea and was crushed to death by stone weights, in an attempt to force him to do so. His last and only words to the authorities attending the trial were “more weight”.
He died on September 19, 1692, at approximately 12 o’clock p.m.
