31 Days of Horror 2013 – Day 2

31 Days of Horror 2013 Day 2

What happens when you mix half a cup of Twin Peaks, a quarter cup of Silent Hill with a quarter cup of Resident Evil and bring it to a rolling boil in the mind of auteur video game director Swery65?  You get Deadly Premonition.

This open world, comedy horror hybrid is recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the most critically polarizing survival horror video game of all time.

The plot involves FBI special agent, Francis York Morgan, who is sent to the tranquil mountain town of Greenvale to investigate the murder of a beloved high school girl.  Sound familiar Twin Peaks fans?  The story develops as several more women are murdered in ritualistic fashion and clues lead to a darker much more sinister plot.  The game adds in moments of quirky humor as Agent Morgan interacts with not only the strange townsfolk of Greenvale but also an unseen imaginary person he refers to as “Zach”.

Deadly Premonition is definitely not a game for everyone, but fans of survival horror would be remiss if they didn’t at least give this one a try.
