31 Days of Horror 2013 – Day 9

The best slasher movie to come out in the last ten years?  Absolutely.  Spinning the genre on its head, Behind the Mask uses the mockumentary approach to give you a behind the scenes peek at how a slasher does his thing.  Living in the same universe as Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Leatherface and even Chucky, Leslie Vernon is a up and coming slash star on the precipice of greatness.  Allowing a college film crew to document his exploits as he prepares for his coming out massacre, Leslie comes across as one of the most charismatic killers ever committed to film.  It’s funny, smart, charming and has a ton of homages to other horror films from The Shining to Hellraiser.  This film sees heavy rotation in my PS3.   If you haven’t seen Behind the Mask yet, do yourself a favor and pick it up.  While you’re at it check out the official Facebook page of the planned sequel:  Before the Mask:  The Return of Leslie Vernon.
